Information can be found everywhere on the internet... but who do you trust? How old or outdated is the information you are reading? MANY if not most of the old ways of passing a drug test are no longer going to work. The laboratories performing tests now even test for many of these solutions! We have THE DRUG TEST SOLUTIONS FOR YOU! As a part of our continuing support in helping you achieve a clean, negative result, we would like to give you some valuable drug test information to understand exactly what is going on!
Let us start out with the different types of testing that are being performed in this day and age:
I) Standard 5-Panel Drug Test (EMIT)
The most basic and most common drug test performed. Screens for the most commonly consumed and abused drugs (also known in the past as the "SAMHSA-5", or "NIDA-5")
II) RIA (Radio Immunoassay)
Not as commonly performed. This test requires the use of a radioactive isotope such as iodine. Since it involves using radioactive isotopes, it is far less popular than EMIT even though it is a lot more accurate. 99% of the time, your test will start with the above 5-Panel Drug Test due to costs.
III) FPI (Fluorescence Polarization Immunoassay)
Chemical compounds, which "fluoresce", or "glow" are used to identify an antibody that is used to bind with specific drugs and/or their metabolites. This test is extremely sensitive and is very specific in identification of the specific drug found. This type of drug testing is not often used due to the high costs and training involved for the person performing the analysis.
IV) Chromatography (Thin Layer Chromatography or GC/MS (Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry)
The combination of Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry drug test information is considered the definitive method of establishing the presence of drugs or their metabolites in the urine. Unless this test is performed in a hospital setting such as following an accident physical after for example being injured at work, the odds of this test being performed are quite low. Typically, these are used to confirm a positive result from one of the above tests performed. Costs are generally too high for employers to even consider using this testing regimen as a first test.
